2000-2001
- Enrolled at the University of Virginia
- Took classes in Biology, Cognition, Learning, Japanese, History of Theatre, Acting, Design, and Makeup
- Performed in the First Year Players production of Damn Yankees as Benny Van Buren, head coach of the beleaguered Washington Senators
- Performed in Elemental Dreams as the ancestral boar spirit, Daniel Crowley, Eaglehawk, and other characters both zany and somber
- Became publicity chair for First Year Players, honed my graphical design muscles
- Spent the summer in Charlottesville, performing in the Offstage Theatre production of Titus Andronicus, working for U.Va.'s Heritage Repertory Theatre
2001-2002
- Began tenure as co-chair of Academic and Cultural Events (ACE) at Brown Residential College, sponsored Tucker Lounge Film Series, trips to several plays, and various other sundry matters
- Official coursework continued with Stage Combat, Advanced Acting, Playwriting, Shakespeare, Linguistic Theory, Computer Science, and Historical Jesus
- Cast in the U.Va. mainstage production of The Miser, directed by unbelievably phenomenal guest director Sabin Epstein. Grew hair long for the period piece, unadvisedly decided to keep it for an extended period.
- Served as Production Manager for Spectrum Theatre (Season included The Vagina Monologues, Anouilh's Antigone, and Voices of the Class)
- First learned of my mother's illness in February of 2002
- Summer was spent at home with my mother. Gainful employment was had at the American Journal of Ophthalmology as an Editorial Assistant and Technology Consultant for online peer-review and submission system
2002-2003
- Continued into my second year as ACE co-chair at Brown College
- Took classes in Low-Level Programming, Artificial Intelligence, Lighting Design, Scenic Technology, Modern American Drama, Theatre History, Sound Technology, Game Aesthetics, and Memory Distortions
- Joined the Speculative Computing Laboratory, began ludological studies
- My mother succumbed in February of 2003. Spirits suffered, as did grades.
- Summer spent in Charlottesville, researching and cleansing the soul.
2003-2004
- Elected as Shama-Lama-Ding-Dong (silly name for Vice President / Chief Operating Officer) of Brown College on Monroe Hill, spent vast majority of "free time" working to coordinate large group of committees dedicated to defining the personality and environment of the residential college
- Studies included Graphics Programming, Real-time Rendering, Advanced Playwriting, the Drama of 20th Century Physics, Game Design, Symbolic Logic, Psychobiology, and the History of Space Flight
- Graduated, shipped off to Carnegie Mellon's ETC for graduate school
